Direct-to-site media buys 2 July 23, 2020 2 WILLIAM SOUZA Media Buys 2 On this video you will continue to learn about the process of setting up media buying campaigns without the platforms.
Hello Support,
I have several issues with this video. First, it was very unclear what William was trying to say about the upfront payments. For instance, what should be said to the website owner or webmaster about the upfront payment? Second, how is this up-front payment price negotiated? Third, once an advertising price is agreed upon, how is this finalized? For example, is a document drawn up by the webmaster or the website owner that has to be signed by them and by me? Fourth, should this direct-to-site media buy written agreement be notarized? Fifth, what does a person do if after testing the direct-to-site media buy campaign, the “numbers,” are significantly down compared to where they were when he or she was advertising with a platform? Should the website owner or webmaster be contacted by phone or via email about this significant difference? And sixth, shouldn’t problems like this be covered in a written agreement between you and the website owner or webmaster? Some guidance on these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
@Dennis – There’s not a rule for any of those points you mentioned. It’s a direct media buys, so there’s no platform and you can define your own rules for working with website owners. Well-known websites with a media kit normally accept payment via Paypal and other secure e-wallets, so you can dispute payments if you don’t receive what you’ve paid for. I have never done written agreements and I’m not sure if website owners would accept to do it (I believe most wouldn’t be willing to disclose all info that’s necessary for a contract), but if you think this would be better for you, you can do it.
About testing campaigns, the investment you make upfront normally won’t be refunded, so you buy a certain amount of exposure (clicks, impressions or time) and then you need to test different ads, offers, landers, etc within that period and find something that performs well. If you don’t manage to do it, then you should move on to another placement. This method requires a better budget and that’s one of the reasons why I don’t recommend it as a starting point. I suggest that you start with ad platforms and do direct to site media buys only when you have good experience, proven campaigns and a good budget for testing.
